The Mp3 Experiments

The Mp3 Experiments

The Mp3 Experiment is participatory public event created by Improv Everywhere.
We stage a new Mp3 Experiment in New York each year and also tour the project regularly to college campuses and international festivals.
Here’s how it works
  • we put an original mp3 file online (usually around 45 minutes long) that people download and transfer to their mobile devices.
  •  Participants then synchronize their watches to an atomic clock on our website, head out to the same public location, and blend in with others.
  •  At the predetermined time, everyone presses play. Hilarity ensues as participants carry out ridiculous, coordinated instructions delivered to their headphones via narrator “Steve” and everyone else tries to figure out what the hell is going on.

David Pogue of the New York Times participated in our 2009 experiment and wrote:
It was hilarious. The crowd was young and fun, and the whole thing was orchestrated, planned and written exceptionally well. What a totally, totally cool idea: part mass hypnosis, part party, part comedy club… like a political rally, but with more to do. Find a way to be part of it.
You can read his full recap on NYTimes.com.

Here is an overview of all of the New York Mp3 Experiments dating back to the original in 2004. Take a look at the videos, and click on the titles to check out the behind the scenes project page.

Start the Term On the Right Foot

To start the term with good humour here are two videos from "Fawlty Towers".
A British sitcom, produced by BBC TV and first broadcast in 1975-79.
It takes place in a pretty ordinary hotel where Manuel,an Spanish waiter, works. It is the most loveable character, full of sincerity and vulnerability, whose confused English vocabulary causes him to make elementary mistakes.
Anyway, he is proud of his English, thinking he kowns a lot.

The Sleeper Car

 THE SLEEPER CAR

They converted a New York City subway car into a “sleeper car,” giving New Yorkers the chance to rest their heads during a late night commute.
They set up three beds, each outfitted with a comforter, pillow, and sheets. Pajamas, sleep masks, and earplugs were also provided as part of this unauthorized free service.
The project took place on the above-ground N train in Astoria, Queens around midnight on a Sunday evening.

The No Pants Subway Ride

January 8 is the 11th Annual No Pants Subway Ride.

Train commuters in major cities worldwide will get a little cheeky Sunday as part of the annual No Pants Subway Ride that ... well ... is exactly what it says.

Pranksters will converge at train stations donned in shirts, shoes and no pants.

The only requirement is to act nonchalant - read, listen to your iPod, chat with your fellow riders - as you go about your normal business without any pants.

Dozens of major cities including London, New York, Washington, Mexico City and Tel Aviv, will take part in the rides, according to organizers Improv Everywhere.

The goal is to elicit laughs

Monday Morning Blues

Monday Morning Blues  (laugh it out.com)
I am sure you can understand the meaning of "blues"with  these pictures, if not, look it up in the dictionary.

How to Tackle the Monday Morning Blues

We all do it. We get a little sick feeling in our stomachs on Sunday evenings when we realize that the weekend is over and we have to go back to work on Monday morning. Why can't the weekends last longer? Why do they go so fast and why do the weeks seem to drag on forever?

How can we joyously anticipate Mondays instead of agonize over them? How can we look forward to the week like we look forward to the weekend? How can we have an attitude that declares, "Thank God, it's Monday!"

Here are a few helps to turn your dread into joy.

Les Luthiers

Some days ago you had the opportunity of watching a film that made you laugh. It was the one about The Italian man who went to Malta.
Don´t worry,it is still at the top right hand corner, so that you can see whenever you feel like. You saw how important it was to speak a language well and the pronuntiation, too.
There may be misunderstandings as long as your pronuntiation is not the required one. So,for the future take it into account.
Watch this new video with Les Luthiers and you will see what happens.
Les Luthiers is an Argentine comedy-musical group known for employing instruments created from common, everyday materials.
I hope you have fun.
