Kieran Donaghy - Short and sweet: Using short films to promote creativity and communication
In this workshop, Kieran explores how short films
can be used in the classroom. He looks at how we can use short films
to promote creativity, and both oral and written communication by doing
communicative activities based around a variety of short films.
The workshop is very practical and teachers should come away with several practical activities to use with their own students.
The Great Gatsby is a 2013 3D romantic drama film. It is an
adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name. The
film is co-written and directed by Baz Luhrmann, and stars Leonardo
DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. The official Warner Bros. website says: "The
filmmaker created his own distinctive visual interpretation of the
classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been
seen before." It follows the life and times of millionaire Jay Gatsby
(played by DiCaprio) and his neighbour Nick, who tells of his encounter
with Gatsby in 1920s America. Warner Bros. says, "Nick is drawn into the
captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and
deceits."

Plot

What interested Eastwood about MILLION DOLLAR BABY was the fact that it was not really about boxing but " a love storyabout a person who is distressed (cause someone anxiety, sorrow, or pain) about his non-existent relationship with his daughter, and who then finds a sort of surrogate ( a substitute) daughter in this young girl who is dying to make her mark on the world as a boxer". Frankie is searching for redemption. There is a turning point in the story, when it becomes a father/daughter love story.

It is one of the most moving and powerful films ever seen. It seems to be a simple story about a boy living in The Bronx in the 1960s . It is simple, but full of humanity and beauty. A father , a bus-driver, fighting against the gangsters not to spoil his son and at the same time trying to give him a formal education . A son, too young at that time to see the dangers of the streets, overwhelmed by the new job with the gangster Sonny.
Everything changes when Calogero(C) witnessed the murder of a man committed by Sonny.
This makes the boy be interested in the world of the mafia and especially in Sonny, whom he admires.
The director, Robert De Niro, starts with a great opening sequence, he captures every element of the Bronx in those years. The music is really good.
We can recognize a clear influence of Martin Scorsese: a taste of the elegant framing and camera movements, the excellent use of musisc in some scenes.
The film is not shot in the Bronx, but in Queens(where some buildings kept the style of the 60) and Long Island.

It was a complicated journey because of the presence and threat of Geronimo. Among them,a prostitute,an alcoholic doctor, a woman looking for her officer husband and a whiskey salesman. Needles to say, most of his films were silent,however, this one was his first sound western. It was produced by Walter Wanger. John Wayne played an important role, excellent John Wayne. Plot
We have watched the film Changeling produced by Clint Eastwood. It is a tragic true story. It happened in Los Angeles, 1928 . Christine Collins returns from work to find her young son Walter missing from home.She calls the police to initiate a search for the boy but they don´t seem very concerned about the case and fail to find him. Then five months later, a boy is found who fits Walter´s description and says he is her son. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrange a public reunion of mother and son, and invite all the press in the hope of getting some positive publicity, but she insists he is not her son, causing the police a great embarrasment. They start a campaign against her.......... What exactly is a "Changeling"?
It is defined as "a baby who is used to take the place of another baby (in stories).In the film we know that it is a story that really happened . It is a classy thriller, a story of anguish.
