Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week 2011 is the thirtieth annual celebration of the freedom to read.
They celebrate this week to draw attention  towards the problem of censorship

Since the inception of Banned Books Week in 1982, libraries and bookstores throughout the country have staged local read-outs as part of their activities. This year, for the first time, readers from around the world will be able to participate virtually in Banned Books Week, Sept. 24 – Oct.1. During this year’s celebration of Banned Books Week, readers will be able to proclaim the virtues of their favorite banned books by posting videos of themselves reading excerpts to a dedicated YouTube channel.

Since the beginning in 1982, the campaign against Banned Books has grown .
In the photo below Sally Wendkos Olds stands in front of the window on April 1, 1982 at Brentano's Book Store on Fifth Avenue across from Rockefeller Center in New York City.

because a rape is described in detail and the language is vulgar.

Reading Skills

SKIMMING         SCANNING        READING IN DETAIL

Scanning is a technique to search for key words or ideas. In most cases, you know what you're looking for, so you're concentrating on finding a particular answer. Scanning involves moving your eyes quickly down the page seeking specific words and phrases.

Skimming means to read something quickly so as to note only the important points. Get a general idea.

Listen to this beautiful song: E-mail My Heart by Britney Spears and read the lyrics

It's been hours seems like days, since you went away,
And all I do is check the screen to see if you're ok.
You don't answer when I phone, guess you wanna be left alone.
So I'm sending my heart, my soul, and this is what I'll say:

[CHORUS]
I'm sorry, oh so sorry, can't you give me one more chance to make it all up to you.
E-mail my heart and say our love will never die
and that I know you're out there and I know that you still care.
Email me back and say our love will stay alive.
Forever, Email my heart.

Whoa
I can see you in my mind, coming on the line
And opening this letter that I've sent a hundred times.
Here's a picture of us two, I look so good on you
and can't you please forgive me for the hurt I put you through.

[Repeat CHORUS]

I'm sorry, oh so sorry, can't you give me one more chance to make it all up to (you).

E-mail my heart and say our love will never die
and that I know you're out there and I know that you still care
(I know that you still care...)
Email me back and say our love will stay alive
Forever (Won't ya say, Won't ya say)
Forever, Forever
Email my heart

DO or MAKE

More practice in the following links:
 The Rubettes- Sugar Baby Love
The Rubettes were an English pop band of the 1970s assembled in 1973 by the songwriting team of Wayne Bickerton, the then head of A&R at Polydor Records, and his co-songwriter, Tony Waddington, after their doo-wop and 1950s American pop-influenced songs had been rejected by a number of existing acts. The band duly emerged at the tail end of the glam rock movement, wearing white suits and cloth caps on stage.

Sugar baby love, sugar baby love
I didn't make to make you blue
Sugar baby love, sugar baby love
I didn't mean to hurt you.

All lovers make
Make the same mistakes
Yes they do
Yes, all lovers make

Make the same mistakes
As me and you
Sugar baby love, sugar baby love
I didn't make to make you blue

Sugar baby love, sugar baby love
I didn't mean to hurt you.
People take my advice
If you love somebody

Don't think twice.
Love you baby love, sugar baby love
Love her anyway, love her everyday
